Old cell phones, laptops, tablets, hard drives, cords, printers, and other electronics are common obstacles during organizing, relocating, downsizing, and cleanout projects. But unlike ordinary household or office clutter, electronics can contain sensitive personal information, require special handling for safe disposal, and create environmental concerns if not managed responsibly.

This educational session will give professional organizers a practical framework for helping clients sort unwanted electronics, identify devices that may contain sensitive data, prepare equipment for disposal, and choose responsible disposal options that balance security, compliance, sustainability, and convenience.

Attendees will learn what to look for when evaluating an electronics recycling or data destruction provider, including the importance of recognized industry certifications, secure handling practices, responsible downstream recycling, and documentation such as Certificates of Recycling and Data Destruction that provide proof of proper processing.

The session will also explore environmentally responsible options for reuse and recycling, helping organizers guide clients toward solutions that reduce landfill waste, recover reusable materials, and support a more sustainable approach to electronics disposal.

Attendees will leave with a simple, repeatable process they can incorporate into client projects to make electronics cleanouts safer, easier, more secure, and more environmentally responsible.
